Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies always seem to sneak up on us at the least opportune time! Dental Care of Muskogee understands that and is happy to offer same-day emergency services and appointments! Just give our Muskogee, OK dental office a call so we can get you in to see an emergency dentist ASAP!

In the meantime, here are suggestions for how to temporarily deal with the most common types of dental emergencies.

Tooth Knocked Out

It is very important to protect the roots of the tooth, so if you need to pick up the tooth, do so by the crown only. If the tooth got dirty, rinse the roots with warm water. If the tooth cannot be placed back in the socket, preserve it between the gums and lip or in a container of milk.

Chipped or Fractured Tooth

Whenever possible, keep the part of the tooth that was broken off or chipped. The immediate concern will be to prevent infection, so rinse with warm salt water to kill off bacteria and keep the tooth safe before your dentist can take a look.

Crown or Filling Came Out

Always keep the crown so it can be used again. Denture adhesive works as a temporary agent to reattach the crown, and dental wax is very successful for protecting the rest of the mouth if there are any sharper edges to the tooth without the dental work.

Severe Toothache

Over the counter pain medication is helpful to dull the pain, and cold compresses help if swelling is involved. Rinse with warm salt water to see if trapped debris is causing the tooth irritation.
