The use of appliances to straighten and align the teeth is referred to as orthodontics. The most common type of orthodontic appliance is traditional metal braces. They use brackets that are attached to the teeth along with metal wires and rubber bands to align the teeth into a more proper position. The wires are used as a track for the teeth to move. The small rubber bands keep the wire attached to the brackets and therefore attached to the tooth. Using wires of different thickness and deeper angles, your dentist can steer the teeth in the direction and speed with which they move in to place.
For a more discreet teeth straightening option, consider ceramic brackets for your traditional braces. They are made to match the color of your tooth and are far less noticeable than traditional metal brackets. Simple white bands can be used to hold the wire in place with the bracket. However, if being discreet is not a priority, the rubber bands come in a variety of colors to allow the wearer to show off their personality. Match them to your favorite color, highlight an upcoming holiday or even show pride for your favorite sports team!
