Sedation dentistry allows patients to be calm, relaxed and not feel pain during their procedures. There are many ways that sedation dentistry can help our patients and our team:
The most common and popular form of sedation is through Nitrous Oxide, also known as Laughing Gas. It is administered through a mask that allows the patient to inhale it. The mild sedation creates a calming sense of euphoria and is also used in conjunction with a local anesthetic to create a calming and pain-free dental experience.
For more complicated and longer procedures, general anesthesia may be necessary. Under general anesthesia, patients will not be conscious during the treatment. While not necessary for most procedures, it is a helpful option to assist with the more involved treatments.
For those patients with severe anxiety and/or phobias, we can also prescribe oral sedation to be taken before your visits in order to help calm the patient before the appointment even begins! Let us know if anxiety or phobias are getting in the way of your best oral health, and we will do our best to help you! When discussing sedation with your dentist, please make them aware of any allergies or medications currently being taken so we can ensure there will be no negative effects.
